For me, fall conjures up images of fading leaves and weekend trips to local farmer's markets. Crisp apples, plump ears of corn fresh from the field - depending on where you live, you may even be able to get lost in a corn maize or visit a pumpkin patch to search for the Great Pumpkin! Okay, I'm cheating a bit here. These muffins aren't an Asian recipe, but they taste great! Besides, with a bit of stretching I was able to come up with an Asian connection. Cloves and cinnamon are two of the spices traditionally found in Chinese five spice powder, and nutmeg and ground ginger are sometimes used as well. The deep south version of popcorn - it is wonderful. Louisiana folk and Yankees boil it and call it gumbo- big mistake, I say. Okra has a great deal of liquid glutinous material in between its seeds. When fried, it goes away."
6. Pumpkin Congee
The mild, sweet flavor of pumpkin works well in congee. Just skin the pumpkin, remove the seeds, cut into cubes or blend into a paste and add to the congee to cook. Add sugar to the cooked congee if desired.
